Marvelous night for a (Luna) Moon Dance

Well I did it.

I tried all 6 of the Luna bars my brother brought me. And now, its review time lovelies.

I am sorry for my lack of blogging these past few days. I know it seems like all bloggers are kind of bringing their blogging to a halt. But I promise, once I get back into the swing of things with summer coming to an end and all, I will be blogging away. All day 🙂

I thought since I am taking time time to tell you what I thought of the Luna’s available only in the states, why not Canada’s as well.

Chai Tea Luna (U.S.A)

Honestly, it was one of my favourites, and I really wasn’t expecting that!
I really love Chai Tea, and this tasted EXACTLLY like it. I honestly felt like I was eating a Chai Tea Latte. The spices in there were just right, and with the chai tea creamy coating on the bottom served as the foam on top of the latte. I enjoyed every last bite. Given, when I ate it, it had been sitting in my backpack for hours heating up, which may have made it better cause…

A few days later I had another, and I did not enjoy it that much at all. It was kinda chalky, and tasteless. I guess something about the way they make these bars sometimes the combination works, and sometimes it doesn’t. I kind of wanted it to be all melty and gooey again the way it was when I first tried it, so maybe heating it up is the trick? So its hot, like a latte? Although the quality was way different, it was still somewhat enjoyable, so the second time round it was a 3/5.

I had my first Chai Tea Luna alongside a Starbucks Strawberry Banana Vivanno.
I was super nervous to try it. Letting go of that amount of control was a little nerve racking. Having someone make a smoothie for me!? Was I crazy!? In the ten minutes before, I was sweating bullets. Then I took one sip, and well…I highly recommend it! It was light, refreshing, but also super filling cause of the fibre and protein powder. If you are in a rush, and in need of a healthy snack, or light breakfast, the Vivanno is a great choice!
I loved the strawberry banana flavour. My brother got the chocolate banana vivanno, that one was a bit of a dooozy. Sometimes when people try to make healthy fruity things a dessert, it fails, and the Vivanno…kinda did.

I have had 3 Vivannos now in the last week, and has anything terrible happened? Nope 🙂 Nothing to fear there!

Chocolate Peppermint Stick (U.S.A)

I’m a big fan of peppermint so I had a feeling I would love this bar. And I did! It tasted like christmas 🙂 Candy cane like, yet also reminded me of a Girl Guide Cookie, so you can imagine how good that tasted.

Cookies n Cream (U.S.A)

I was soooo excited for the flavour. I had such high hopes! I love me some Oreos, so that in Luna Bar form? Sounded fantastic.
But ladies, it let me down. This was not a delight. This was the worst of all the flavours I have tried. Instead of tasting like cookies n cream, it was like proteiny chocolate and…thats about it. I wasn’t sure if it was just me, so I let my friend have a taste and her response? after seeing my excitement over the Luna bar loot was “why do you like those bars so much?”

I have heard people love this flavour, so maybe the one I ate was just a doozy, kind of like the chai tea latte bar, maybe this was just the bad one in the batch, but I seriously could barely finish it. Not so hot. But hey, one bad bar out of 8? Clif don’t gotta be worried. 😉

Dulce de Leche (U.S.A)

I was not expecting much for this bar. I had heard this was one of the least popular ones, and that it tasted the most like cardboard. WRONG!! I don’t know if it is cause of the new recipe, but this one was really good! Very caramelly, and like most Luna’s I felt like I was eating a decadent desert. Loved it!

Lemon Zest

It was good, but I’m not a huge fan of lemon flavour. It has the typical rice puff texture of luna bars with a lemon cream coating on the bottom. If you like lemon, than you would love this bar, because lemony it certainly is. I’m just more of a chocolate, caramel kind-a girl.

Nutz Over Chocolate

This is one of the flavours usually available in Canada, and of that selection, its my favourite. It literally tatses like nuts over some yummy chocolate. If you like peanut butter and chocolate, you will like this bar. Something I love doing to it, is microwaving it with the chocolate coating facing up. It gets all melty and messy and amazing.

Peanut Butter Cookie (U.S.A)

Yep pretty hard for me to  give low ratings to Lunas. This one was also great. It really did taste like a peanut butter cookie. I paired it with a chocolate milk and was in peanut, chocolate heaven.

Toasted Nuts and Cranberry

These taste great, and are the perfect blend of nuts and cranberry. But when there are such other delicious flavours available, this one always leaves me wishing I had gone for a yummy flavoured Luna. This bar is great in times when I am really not in the mood for a chocolate fix, and is great for people who don’t like chocolate too much. Otherwise, dessert flavoured bars all the way 🙂

My second favourite of the Canadian ones. Doesn’t taste like Smores at all, so don’t expect that. But it does taste like a chocolate coated granola bar, and thats cool with me 🙂

White Chocolate Macadamia (U.S.A)

I love white chocolate. And this bar certainly stands up to its reputation. It tasted exactlly like a white chocolate macadamia cookie. I broke into this bar the first night back when my brother revealed the loot to me, and it was a fantastic way to start off my week of Luna Bar testing. My brother tried it, and loved it too. So it gets 4 thumbs up! Super delicious, soo happy I have 5 more of these 🙂

More exiciting news! My local grovery strore just started carrying Stonyfield Oikos Greek Yogurt and Chobani Greek Yogurt. When I saw them in the store I had a mini heart attack, and was so overcome with joy, but totally unsure of which ones to buy.

So now I need reviews from you girls, what flavours of Oikos and Chobani do you reccomend I try? Any favourites? And how do you girls eat them? What pairs well?

I am so excited to try these out, and am so happy to have a Skyr-like fix here in Canada! Weee!!

I also wanted to thank all of you for your lovely comments on my last post. You guys are all so supportive, and I love hearing from all of you 🙂

I’ll do a more regular post tomorrow but I hope you all are well, and I have missed you, as I always do when I leave the blogging world now and again.

Look on the bright side

Hello hello hello

This is going to be a quick post because I am on my way out with the fam, but things are OK.

I’m still super bummed, but I talked with my dad, and he was up for the idea of me going back in January, and just about an hour ago, my mom suggested me going to school, but just taking a lighter course load, and coming home every weekend. So I hoooopping that will be the case. Going back at all would be fantastic! So I am keeping my hopes and my head up 🙂

Yesterday was tough, but I got through it, stuck to the plan, and I felt good by the end of the day, and had enjoyed quite a few lovely eats.

Breakfast:

To begin bringing me out of my slump, I had a breakfast favourite. 😉

2 eggo apple cinnamon fibre plus waffles, 1 banana, cottage cheese and some coffee.

I loveeedd these waffles, it was my first time trying that flavour, and they were yummmyy, and definetley helped put a bit of a smile on my face 🙂

I talked some things over with my dad and mom, and it was a little intense. So after that, my mom and I took a stroll to the neighbouthood starbucks, to blow off some steam, with some steamy drinks:

Double shot tall soy latte, and a chocolate chip peanut crunch clif bar.

I had this flavour before, and it was just as good this time around.
But nothing beats the maple nut. 🙂

I only had about half the bar, cause this girl was a little stuffed. I just planned to finish it later.

After this we went grocery shopping (as you notice, my mom was trying her best to cheer me up) and we got some very necessary grub which included la tortilla wraps, kashi crackers, turkey, apples, peanut butter puffins, some more clif bars and some juuiiice.

With my shiny new wraps I whipped up this DSC01753lunch:
Tortilla with lemon pepper tuna, laughing cow cheese and tomato slices {panini times} along with baby carrots, apple slices, and some pomegranate blueberry juice.

I was only able to eat half of this before I had to run out the door for my yoga session.

Yoga was the usual, super nice and relaxing. I always leave feeling so much more connected and in tune with my body 🙂 love love love it.

After yoga I promptly had my post workout snack the rest of my lunch, and read some blogs.

Before I knew it, I was off to therapy. Which went well, I would explain if I had more time, but basically he was able to clear some things up for me, and helped me to see the positives of the situation, rather than focus on the negatives. [such as having proper time to get better, spend more time with my brother who will be in the city this year etc.]

I needed some more comfort food, and what better than a little cocoa:

Liberte Vanilla Yogurt and a cocoa mint jocolat larabar.

This is the only jocalat flavour I have tried, and I love it so much that I have yet to tear myself away from it to try the other flavours. Some day..some day..

I crumbeled it into the yogurt, and it was loverrrlyy.

After this snack, I finished up my blog entry, and got myself ready for my friends BBQ, only to get a call from her saying it was no longer a BBQ (due to some rain), just a party, and I should get myself over there just a litttlee later.

I was all dolled up with no where to go (yet)
So I just pranced around the house for a bit, and then made myself this dinner (BBQ inspired):
DSC01758 Chicken burger on a whole wheat pita, with melty cheddar cheese, mustard and ketchup.

Steamed veggies, kashi crackers and a laughing cow cheese wedge.

After one bite, I felt the burger needed some more pizzazz, so I put the LC wedge on the burger, and put that baby on the panini, again. Problem solved. This burger deserved prizes.

Then I was off to the BBQ. It was really fun, saw some friends, met some new people, had a drink, and felt a little more normal again. It made me realise how much we neeed interaction to be healthy. Just being with other people, and being out of the house made me feel so much more at ease with myself, and with the wholes situation. (though it did suck when people from other schools started talking about how stoked they were to come visit us at our house next year..but im keeping my hopes up! I will be there at some point!)

I headed home sometime after midnight, kinda early, but peoples had work, so it wasn’t an all night raging vibe anyway, gotta save some energy for the weekend 😉

Once home I was ready for some sleep, and tucked myself right into bed.

I am off to sushi with the fam, we’re gonna try and just put all this drama aside for a night, and just enjoy some time together.

Boost Induced

Friday is here, the sun is out, and I am feeling fine 🙂

I am really enjoying this blogging dealy so far, feels kind of good to be able to get all my thoughts out on “paper” haha
I also really appreciate all the comments from you girls, reminding me of what a welcoming and loving community the blogging world is. 

Thursday started out like any other, I got up, and dragged my half awake self down to the kitchen, only to discover we were missing quite a few food staples, breads, fruits, MILK!? 

So off me and my mom went to the grocery store.

I think its kind of weird how much I like grocery shopping, and this is something I have noticed on the blogs of other girls as well. But I could honestly spend hours in a grocery store..i think its fun! weird? maybe, but whatevaa 🙂 And it drives my mom crazy cause she just kinda wants to get what we need and bounce, whereas I go up and down the aisles, looking for new things to try, or finding some favourite items. Yesterday was no different, and we had quite the haul of items, no picture though girlies, sorry.

By the time we got home, I was hunngggrryyy. So i made myself this lovely breakie:

2 eggo fibre plus blueberry waffles, with 1/2 banana, 1 container cottage cheese, and some java.

Probably one of my favourite breakfasts, but I try and keep it to once a week though, so I don’t ever get sick of it. 😉

After breakfast I wrote up my blog entry, read some of your lovely posts, and then me, my mom and my brother decided we should go do something. Though it took us forever to get out of the house, around 12 we headed out for a starbucks run, I made sure to grab myself a granola bar to enjoy along side the coffee on the way out.. IMG_0277

 

Double tall soy latte, and a sunshine valley banana nut granola bar. Love these granola bars. 

We strolled around town for a bit, looked at some design stores, and then ended up in Sleep Country Canada, where I may or may not have napped on one of the many mattresses…haha

 

 

Then we headed back home where I made myself some lunch:

IMG_0279Brown rice wrap with turkey, mozzarella, mustard and spinach, panini’d as always. 

With some carrots (way more than pictured) 1/2 a golden delicious apple, 10 kashi TLC crackers (with 1 tbsp salmon cream cheese for dipage) and some so nice mango juice.

My brother saw my lunch, and promptly made himself a wrap as well. I think it was his first time having a wrap, and damnn, he loved it. He kept on going on about how great wraps are cause you can fill them with anything you want!! And while I agree, I reminded him that the same concept applied to normal sandwiches. He was blinded by the greatness of the wrap, how can I blame him?

After lunch I kind of just chilled around the house, went to staples with my dad, bought some office supplies, chilled some more. And after all that chilling and lazing, you know I needed some snackage if I was ever going to have enough energy to chill more:

Banana Cookie LaraBar, 1/2 normal, 1/2 crumbeled over some raspberry yogurt.  

I am really influencing my brothers diet, as soon as he saw the LaraBar, he said he wanted one too! He enjoyed the Pecan Pie LaraBar. And he is now also a LaraBar convert.

Wraps, larabars…he may soon start blogging my friends.

About one hour later my fam decided to BBQ some lamb burgers. Unfortunatley I was not quite hungry yet. So I just sat outside with them and enjoyed the weather and company. About an hour and a half later, I did begin to feel some hunger, and the lamb burgers inspired me to do some burger action of my own:

Methinks my foodie pictures are improving yes? 

Sol Veggie Burger on a whole wheat hamburger bun, with a slice of melty processed cheese, tomato slices, ketchup and mustard, all panini’d (yes I even panini my burgers…its a problem) and some baby carrots, kashi TLC crackers (can’t get enough of these) and some banana to spread on the crackers.
(Banana and TLC crackers together taste like mini banana bread, try it ouuut)
The lot was washed down with my lemon lime gatorade of the day.  

The fam and I were gonna go out and see a movie, but we made the mistake of turning on CNN where we found the Larry King Live at Neverland Ranch…and we all kind of couldn’t stop watching. I still can’t fully beleive that Micheal Jackson is dead, he just always seemed like one of those icons who could never die you know?
Speaking of last nights Larry King, did anyone else see that video of MJ’s 2nd last rehearsal!? He was looking pretty good! Its a shame the world won’t get to see his final tour, I’m sure it would have been pretty epic!
After Larry King, we decided to rent The Pink Panther 2, too make up for the missed movie outing . Just as we were about to watch it, i realised I hadn’t had my supplement!! 

IMG_0287 It was reccomended to me back in January that I start using Boost, but back then I was no where near as ready to get better as I am now. Back then I saw Boost as some evil concotion made to make me gain weight. So i resisted and refused to try it. Then on monday when my new dietitan recommended it to me, I didn’t feel the urge to fight it anymore. 

Now I won’t lie, I was super nervous to try it. A part of me just wanted to skip it, but I’m tired of cheating myself, and I was way to full to have a clif instead (though I love them dearly) So i poured the boost in a glass and went for it, and you know what. It tasted damn good. I really enjoyed the boost, so drinking one of these a day? or having a clif? Noooo problemo. 🙂

I enjoyed the boost, and I enjoyed the movie. Goofy and off the wall, exactly the type of movie the fam was in the mood for. After the movie, I went on a nice midnight stroll with my brother. Something I love about the summer is that its still so warm at night! 

So all in all a lovely lovely Thursday. Friday promises to be quite good too, some shopping with brother downtown, maybe actually getting oursleves to a movie tonight? we shall see…I am dying to see My Sisters Keeper, everyone keeps writing about how great it is. We’ll see if I can convince my mom to go with me. 

And then Saturday I am off to a friends cottage for 2 days, very excited to get some sun, some brewski, and be with my girls! The girls I’m going with are my best friends, and we have all known each other since grade one! So I may not post till Sunday, but we’ll see 😉

Bad lighting I know, but this lovely mix is 2 mini chocolate chip cookies with some breyers cookies n cream ice cream. And that box like dealy you see next to it, is some chocolate milk. yummmers.

New In Town

Goood Morning All!
I hope you all had a lovely wednesday, mine was pretty good 🙂

I woke up kinda late, so I immediately fixed myself a loverly breakfast:

Egg McMuffin: english muffin with one scrambeled egg and a slice of mozzarella. Accompanied by 1/2 a golden delicious, leftover egg, and some ketchup. Was gonna have the soy milk, but opted for some espresso after the picture was taken 🙂

Then it was straight on to cleaning. Me and my parents cleaned the entire house yesterday, it was craziness. And it was all because my brother was arriving yesterday from Iceland. For some reason whenever a family member is arriving, or returning from a trip, its like an expectation of our family that the house be perfectly clean. Its kind of hilarious, especilly since I’m sure my brother would barely notice a difference, but its nice I guess to make an effort. 🙂

Around 11 my best friend called me, and asked if I would go with her to buy some breakfast (she eats late) which I was def up for, so biddy came over, and off we went. Within 5 minuts of being in her car, she asked how I was, why we hadnt talked in so long (2 days..which is a long time for us haha) and whether I had anything I wanted to talk about. This immediately reminded me of what my therapist had been telling me about being more open with my closest friends (see last post) and so I was happy that the oppourtunity was presenting itself so quickly. I tried my best to explain my behaviour and situation to her:  I told her that even though I wanted to talk to her so many times about what was going on, and I wanted to tell her everything, my fear of being a nuisance, or bringing down the mood of the chill sesh (dont know where that term came from) always kept me from letting her in. I also apoligized for being so absent from her life, I don’t know about you girls, but I definetley isolate myslef quite a bit. It just feels safer to stay home with my parents and the food I know, where I have control, than to go out with friends and just live life unplanned. I explained that this was something i was going to work on changing, and even better, she said she would help me do that! She also told me that it only ever made her happy when we talked about it, because it made her relived to know what was going on with me, to hear I was working on getting better, and made her feel she could help me in some way. We ended up having a really good talk, and both opened up to eachother, and a lot of the tension that had been underlying in our relationship was lifted. After the heavy talk, she came back to my house and had her breakfast, while I had a snack, and we just talked and hung out like old times, it really felt great. Girlies, if you have a friend you are holding back from, for fear that they don’t want to hear about your ED, or because you don’t want to talk about it yourself, let that person in. I can tell you now from experience, theres no better feeling than reconnecting with a friend you were beginning to distance yourself from. I think when we stop caring about ourselves, its easy to forget that other people still do care about us. Being alone ain’t no fun, friends are good for the soul.

DSC01683I didn’t photograph my snack with my friend, no one knows about this bloggie, except for my mom, but here’s what snack consisted of, a creamy vanilla yogurt and a to go pack of all bran buds. Love me some fibre.

The rest of the day was continued mmaaaaaddd cleaning. I took a break from my windex and cloth around 2 for some lunchie:

My photographing skills clearly still need some work, but the pita was filled with a laughing cow cheese wedge and a large slice of turkey and some mustard. Then some carrots, the other 1/2 of my golden delicious apple, Kashi TLC Crackers and mango juice.

I ate my lunch while watching an episode of Frasier. I absolutely love old sitcoms, I could rewatch episodes of seinfeld or frasier anyday. So much better than all this new reality TV bussiness…not that I don’t love me some housewives of …jon and kate plus 8 or paris’s new BFF now and again. haha

Something kind of challenging for me today was implementing an increase to my meal plan. I started with a new dietitan on Monday, who said I should add either a boost or a clif bar everyday, to up them cals just a lil more 😉

Photo 998She told me to have it with lunch, which I had planned on doing, but it ended up being a bit too overwhelming for me, so I waited 2 hours, and then I got down to bussiness. I lovelovelove clif bars, so for my first day of the new meal plan, I thought I would start with something I truly enjoy. Maple Nut, which is my favourite flavour so far, and some vanilla soy milk.

As far as clifs go I have tried maple nut, toffee peanut buzz, carrot cake, chocolate chip and chocolate chip peanut crunch. My fav has always been maple nut, with chocolate chip peanut crunch in a close second. Any flavours you girls reccomend? I am dying to try the WCM clif, but noooo dice, seeing as they aren’t sold here in Canada. lameeeo.

After the clif, I went for a quick walk with my dad in the lovely canada day weather. When we got back we found out that our neighbour had decided to throw a Canada Day street party, and was setting up BBQ’s and a cooler full of brewski’s. So suddenly we had Canada Day plans, which was great 🙂

I hung out with my neighbours, which was great cause I hadn’t seen them all in a long time and we all used to be super close. There about 5 of us on the street all around the same age, and growing up we literally spent everyday together. Because my brother is a whole 12 years older than me he moved out for school around when I was 7, so having these other kids on the street was great for me. They were like the siblings I never had 🙂

At around 7 I had to scurry off quickly to tuck into this snack: 1/2 an english muffin, with some banana and a good amount of PB (maybe?) washed down with some mo’ vanilla soy milk.

So I am sticking to this peanut butter challenge, but I need some help from you girls, does that amount of PB seem decent?
Then it was back to the street party. Which was lots of fun. About half way through the evening, my brother arrived!! WEEE!! It was great to have him back. My family always feels complete when he is around..wonder why, haha. So I chilled with him and my neighbours and enjoyed the BBQ, along with some BBQ delights:

Once again, I will take some food photography classes, cause that shit looks naaassty.

Well once again I feel like this post may be dragging on, so I’m gonna wrap it up soon. All in all it was a great day. I really stuck to my meal plan, aimplemented the supplement increase with little anxiety, reconnected with my best friend, chilled with the my childhood besties, and got my brother back. An excellent start to July, and a great Canada day.

So I’ll finish off with desert, and a song ya’ll should give a listen to. I used its title as the name of my post because 1. I am new in this blogging town, 2. my brother just got back to town, and 3. my best friend can absolutely not get this song out of her head. Its a goodie. New in Town <—click it

Oh and just a quick note about my eats. I don’t think I am gonna post everything I eat in a day always, but just for these first few posts I will, cause they kinda give my posts direction, and also because I am trying to make myself come to terms with the amount of food I am eating, and accept that its what I need to get better. I am also posting all of my eats right now, because I remember reading blogs, and seeing what other girls were eating, and realising that I was not alone in having to eat a lot really helped me to stick to my meal plan, and stay motivated. 🙂

So, if your reading this, and your going through a meal plan situation like me. We need it girlies!! It will make us better! And instead of resisting it, lets enjoy it! Like my best friend said to me yesterday, she would trade my meal plan with what she eats anyday!
